Fernando Valdes Gonzalez, Napa's bravest little boy!
At 5 years old, Fernando has already seen it all. Pain, doctors, cancer, family hardships, more doctors, more pain.
"Fernando doesn't remember a month without a medical appointment or therapy session.
He was in surgery at 9 months old, and underwent chemotherapy at 2 and a half," says Maria, Fernando's mom.
Fernando was just 5 months old, when his parents found out he was not developing properly. After many tests, an MRI revealed he had a tumor growing at the base of his neck.
"That started our terrifying journey. It was so scary. We didn't know anyone with a child who had a condition like this. We felt so alone," Maria said.
Fortunately, Fernando's parents found ParentsCAN and we were there for Maria, her little boy and her family, every step of the way.
"I am so thankful for you. I met with my Advocate often. She listened patiently to all my concerns. No problem was too big or too small. She helped me understand the doctors, connected us to many places and resources for our family and she even helped me fill out all the paperwork."
We can only do this with your support and that of others in the community. Will you consider a special donation of $50, $75 or perhaps $100 today?
With your help, we provided childcare for Maria, so she could attend our trainings and support groups that helped her care for Fernando.
Fernando's health conditions are complex. Ongoing monitoring, therapies and treatment mean that the family has many more challenges to face.
"Our children are the most important thing in our lives. Learning that our baby was seriously ill was devastating," says Maria. "Fortunately, my ParentsCAN advocate has been with us every step of the way for the last four years. I am so grateful that help is here when we need it!"
We will never turn away a family in distress - but we can't do it without your help. No gift is too small!
Will you please give as generously as you can today and help families find the acceptance, education, and assistance they need, so their child can reach their full potential?
