How We Work
When a child is diagnosed with a disability -- which can be anything from a learning issue like ADHD, a mental health issue like Bipolar disorder, a developmental issue like autism, to a physical health issue like cerebral palsy -- families usually are overwhelmed. "What do I do?" is a common question. The situation typically is experienced as a crisis. This is where ParentsCAN comes to offer vital assistance. |
 |
Our Family Advocates guide families through the systems and social service resources available to help them become a healthy, whole familyagain, and to train parents to become advocates for their children with special needs. ParentsCAN helps parents, siblings and children meet the challenges they face with hope and confidence.
ParentsCAN is dedicated to the fundamental principle that every family deserves to be a healthy family -- to reach their fullest potential for health, happiness, and independence. Families with children who have special needs are no exception. We believe that the best way for children with disabilities to achieve their potential is by remaining united with their families.
ParentsCAN staff members are uniquely qualified to help -- they are all fully trained advocates for special needs children. More importantly, each Family Advocate on our staff is the parent of a child with a disability or healthcare issue. When a family asks "What do I do?”, our staff can help because they've been there.
ParentsCAN is the only Napa County-based resource that addresses the needs of families who have children with disabilities, providing parent-to-parent peer support, resources, support groups and workshops for information about systems and skill building. Our staff is the most highly trained team of advocates in the area of disability and healthcare issues in Napa County.
