On Thursday,
Parent-Child Advocacy Network celebrates Grandparents’ Day with its
third annual Grand Traditions: In Celebration of Grandparents, at the
Meritage Resort.
The festivities include a 6 p.m. wine
reception, followed by a gourmet dinner, remarkable Napa Valley wines
and live and silent auctions. This year’s honorees are Barbara and
Warren Winiarski. Warren WIniarski’s first vintage of Stag’s Leap Wine
Cellars cabernet made history when it won first place in the Paris
Tasting of 1976.
Warren is an avid and talented dancer, so this
year’s celebration will include dancing to music provided by the Volker
Strifler Band.
While Barbara has been long known for her
talents as chef, painter and fisherwoman, the arts have always been a
large part of the Winiarski family. Their diverse, fascinating,
multidimensional lives have been fittingly captured and honored by Suzy
Sansome in the artwork she created as the signature auction item for
the event.
Warren and Barbara also have offered generous support
to the disadvantaged children and youth of Napa County, in addition to
contributions to the wine industry, the community and the country.
“Just as Barbara and Warren approach the
crafting of their fine wines with integrity, insight and discipline,
with an overlay of heart and faith, so do they also approach
philanthropy,” said ParentsCAN board member Jim King.
Joan
Lockhart, executive director and founder of ParentsCAN, said, “The
Winarskis were chosen for their values of family, the arts, the earth
and the historical perspective of generations past — as well as their
generous and extensive involvement in the community.”
ParentsCAN
is dedicated to providing guidance and hope to the families of children
who are significantly disabled, have mental illness or face other
special health issues.
“Families of children with disabilities
face many unique challenges and grandparents often play a critical role
in enabling these families to stay together,” said Lockhart.
“Grandparents are often the only way families can make it. We want to
shine a light on how the families need their elders and thank
grandparents for all they give.”
